Information
The mixed-use urban redevelopment at 123 Montague Street consists of three 28-storey apartment towers in South Melbourne containing both residential and retail premises.
GbLA lead town planning design services for the urban design response to the redevelopment of Thistlethwaite Street as a shared space. The project integrated the public realm with the proposed built form while also activating adjoining laneways connected to the site through a series of landscape initiatives including lighting, signage, art work, re-surfacing of pavements and planning to activate existing laneways.
The design demonstrated an innovative approach to the use of materials and surface finishes to help re-order traffic movements while also providing an intelligent and leading-edge response to the harvesting and re-use of stormwater collected both on and off the site.
